Ken Graham Educational Grants

The educational purpose of the Ken Graham Educational Grants is to provide financial support toward the study and instruction at schools or training courses located in the United States and the United Kingdom in an area of Scottish culture; such as but not limited to piping, drumming, Clarsach (harp), Scottish Dance, Gaelic language. Only applications relevant to the training in or the study of Scottish culture will be considered.

Please note the following guidelines prior to applying!

• Grants will be made directly to the training institution or organization to assist in defraying the cost of tuition or course fees. Exceptions will only be considered when fully justified.
• Normally grants will not exceed $ 500.
• Applicants are expected to support their application with letters of recommendation from school principals or teachers.
• If feasible, applicants must be willing to attend an interview with the Ken Graham Educational Grant Committee.
• Grants will be awarded based on relevant study objectives and financial need. Race, gender, ethnicity, or religion of the applicant will not be considered in the grant process.
• Preference will be given to residents of Williamsburg and the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. However, persons outside the area are also invited to apply.
• All grants must be utilized within a year after award.
• Grant recipients must submit a certificate or letter from the qualified instructor to the Saint Andrews Society confirming completion of that course of advanced training.
• Grant recipients, if feasible, will be expected to attend a general meeting of the Society to address their course of study’s outcome and to demonstrate their level of proficiency gained through the grant, as appropriate.
• For grant recipients who request additional awarding of grants from the Society, it is important that the two requirements above be properly fulfilled.
