Experience the rich traditions of Scotland with the St. Andrew's Society of Williamsburg! Throughout the year, our members come together to host and participate in a variety of exciting events that celebrate Scottish heritage and culture. From lively gatherings to time-honored ceremonies, these experiences create lasting memories and strengthen our vibrant community. Explore the highlights of our annual events below and discover how you can join in the celebration. While dates may vary, the spirit of Scotland remains at the heart of everything we do!

Burns Night
The year begins with Burns Night, a gala celebration of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, with members resplendent in full Highland Scottish and formal attire. Conducted on or near the 25th of the month, this unique gathering is filled with Burns’ poems and songs, the powerful music of the pipes and drums, delicious food and drink, and all that makes for a fun and memorable evening.
Pub Nights
February marks the return of our monthly pub night - which runs from February through October. It is a casual and fun event that features socializing and is often followed by dinner.
Tartan Day
April is Scottish History Month, and is highlighted by Tartan Day, celebrated on or near the 6th of April, which is the officially recognized day in both the U.S. and Canada. The occasion will often include a tartan parade, a midday meal, and a program that features Scottish music, dancing, and presentations about Scottish culture and history.
Kirkin of the Tartans
The Spring Kirkin’ of the Tartans features a blessing of the Tartans, and recreates a popular Scottish-American event originated by the Rev. Peter Marshall in 1940. The Spring Kirkin’ is held at the historic Christ Church in Weems, VA.
Annual General Meeting
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is convened yearly during the autumn, to address Society business requiring decisions by the membership. In addition to the business portion, this event provides a social opportunity for members enjoy good food, fellowship, and entertainment.
Autumn Kirkin of the Tartans
The Autumn Kirkin’ of the Tartans features a blessing of the Tartans similar to that of Spring at a local Williamsburg church.
Christmas Parade
St. Andrew's Society takes part and marches in the annual Williamsburg Christmas parade, usually with the Williamsburg Pipes and Drums group.
Christmas Ceilidh
To mark the holidays, the Society hosts a Christmas luncheon that with a Ceilidh featuring dancing, singing, poetry and more.

The "Highland Games" are famous for showcasing awe-inspiring feats of skill and endurance - such as the caber toss, the stone put (similar to shot-put), and the hammer throw – and paying homage to the warrior spirit of Scotland’s past.

In years where they are held, members frequently attend the games.
