Ken Graham Educational Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded annually to individuals seeking degrees from institutions of higher learning in the United States and the United Kingdom to further their knowledge in areas related to Scottish history, culture, and traditions. The Society encourages young people of Scottish ancestry to apply for a scholarship to pursue Scottish related degrees; however, awards are not limited to young people or those of Scottish ancestry.
• Scholarships normally will be paid directly to the educational university or college to assist in defraying the cost of tuition or course fees. Exceptions will be considered only when fully justified.
• Applicants are required to support their application with three letters of recommendation from school principals, teachers, or faculty members, as appropriate.
• If feasible, applicants must be willing to attend an interview with the Ken Graham Educational Scholarship Committee.
• Scholarships will be awarded based on relevant study objectives and financial need. Race, gender, ethnicity, or religion of the applicant will not be considered in the award process.
• Preference will be given to residents of Williamsburg and the Hampton Roads, Virginia area. However, persons outside the area are also invited to apply.
• All scholarships must be utilized within a year after award.
• Applicants who have been tentatively selected must submit a letter from the educational institution showing their acceptance and enrollment/registration in that institution in a field of study or training directly leading to a degree with a major relating to Scottish culture.
• Scholarship recipients must submit a certificate or letter to the Saint Andrews Society from the institution confirming completion of that course of learning or semester and the grades awarded for which the scholarship was given.
• Scholarship recipients, if feasible, will be expected to attend a general meeting of the Society to address their course of study’s outcome. As a minimum, a thesis, dissertation or report on the courses of study must be submitted to the Society.
• For scholarship recipients who request additional awarding of scholarships from the Society, it is important that the first two requirements above be properly fulfilled.
